Our short stay in New York has mainly involved a lot of eating, walking the length Manhattan to see the main sites and window shopping (because our backpacks are already filled to the brim and we could easily blow our entire travelling budget on 5th Avenue).
When we eventually got through customs at JFK Airport and got to our hostel in Chelsea we dumped off our bags and searched for a restaurant. We ended up in a restaurant which had every kind of meatball there is. After our meatball meal we went back to the hostel for 12 hours of sleep only interrupted by our Korean room mate whose snore would put my Dad's to shame!
The next couple of days we wrapped up warm and went up to the top of the Rock (Rockefeller Centre). From there we could see the whole of New York in the sunshine, we couldn't have asked for better weather!
We rested our legs on the outdoor heated sofas in Bryant park sipping a hot spiced cider and watched the people ice skating. On the way back to the hostel we picked up some "baked by Melissa" cupcakes which were tiny and yummy! We ate in a diner that night!
Yesterday (22nd) we walked along the High Line. The High Line was an old railway that was used to transport products like meat and milk to upper Manhattan. Now its been converted into a walkway with plants along the way and gives a different view of the city. We then had a manicure New York style and grabbed the subway downtown to see the new World Trade Centre and the statue of liberty. We had dinner and cocktails in a trendy bar in Chelsea.
We're moving on to Argentina next and I'm definitely looking forward to the warm weather but not the 10 hour flight it takes to get there!
